CANADA PLACE 2000 - 2002

The extension to Canada Place was completed a year ahead of schedule and was ready to welcome cruise ships in May 2002.

Note that Diamond Princess will surpass Star Princess in May 2004

Saturday May 11, 2002 marked the first day three mega-ships docked at Canada Place at one time. Radiance of the Seas and Zaandam docked at the west side of Canada Place, both dwarfed by Star Princess on the east side. The downtown Vancouver facility has been extended beyond the IMAX theatre, and is now able to handle three instead of two of today's huge vessels at one time.

CANADA PLACE CONSTRUCTION PHOTOS
2001 & 2000

2001:Those who have sailed from Canada Place in the past will not recognize it this year. Construction of the new pier has shut off the "prow" section at the harbour end of the facility which was the best place to film ships in port. Also, the cruise level is now dedicated to passengers and embarkation and disembarkation procedures. There is no public area on that level and you can no longer get to other areas of Canada Place (except the lower parking levels) from the cruise passenger area. The changes have improved facilities and transportation servcies for passegners as well as increased security. Construction of the new pier is expected to be complete for the 2003 season.
